Pell outlived almost everyone who started with her, which in the Corridor is less a blessing than a tally that keeps growing. She made herself useful to the Carrion Trade and they made her almost safe, which is the most the trade ever offers. Mara died on the Harrow-Burn road and the caravan was never found. Pell paid down every debt she carried but the years were a debt too, and those the Carrion cannot discount. Deacon closed her eyes at Marrow, under the food-court lights.
